įacebook integrated a software development kit for games using the Unity game engine in 2013. This version added DirectX 11 and Adobe Flash support, new animation tools called Mecanim, and access to the Linux preview. In November 2012, Unity Technologies delivered Unity 4.0. Unity wants to be the engine for multi-platform games, period." A May 2012 survey by Game Developer magazine indicated Unity as its top game engine for mobile platforms. More than 1.3 million developers are using its tools to create gee-whiz graphics in their iOS, Android, console, PC, and web-based games. In 2012 VentureBeat wrote, "Few companies have contributed as much to the flowing of independently produced games as Unity Technologies. In addition to Android support, Unity 3 featured integration of Illuminate Labs' Beast Lightmap tool, deferred rendering, a built-in tree editor, native font rendering, automatic UV mapping, and audio filters, among other things. Unity 3.0 launched in September 2010 with features expanding the engine's graphics features for desktop computers and video game consoles. For several years, the engine was uncontested on the iPhone and it became well-known with iOS game developers. When Apple launched its App Store in 2008, Unity quickly added support for the iPhone. It included a Networking Layer for developers to create multiplayer games based on the User Datagram Protocol, offering Network Address Translation, State Synchronization, and Remote Procedure Calls. The release also added features whereby developers could collaborate more easily. The release included an optimized terrain engine for detailed 3D environments, real-time dynamic shadows, directional lights and spotlights, video playback, and other features. Unity 2.0 launched in 2007 with approximately 50 new features. Unity was initially released for Mac OS X, later adding support for Microsoft Windows and Web browsers. The next year, Unity was named runner-up in the Best Use of Mac OS X Graphics category in Apple Inc.'s Apple Design Awards. The Unity game engine launched in 2005, aiming to "democratize" game development by making it accessible to more developers. The engine has been adopted by industries outside video gaming, such as film, automotive, architecture, engineering, construction, and the United States Armed Forces. The engine can be used to create three-dimensional (3D) and two-dimensional (2D) games, as well as interactive simulations and other experiences. It is particularly popular for iOS and Android mobile game development, is considered easy to use for beginner developers, and is popular for indie game development. The engine has since been gradually extended to support a variety of desktop, mobile, console and virtual reality platforms. Unity is a cross-platform game engine developed by Unity Technologies, first announced and released in June 2005 at Apple Worldwide Developers Conference as a Mac OS X game engine.

We have been following the discussions and news reports about reducing the number of doses, extending the length of time between doses, changing the dose (half-dose), or mixing and matching vaccines in order to immunize more people against COVID-19. As the first round of vaccine recipients become eligible to receive their second dose, we want to remind the public about the importance of receiving COVID-19 vaccines according to how they’ve been authorized by the FDA in order to safely receive the level of protection observed in the large randomized trials supporting their effectiveness. Two different mRNA vaccines have now shown remarkable effectiveness of about 95% in preventing COVID-19 disease in adults. Director - Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER) Commissioner of Food and Drugs - Food and Drug Administration However, she cautioned that people, particularly older people, must remember that they're not fully protected against COVID-19 during the period between doses. For Immediate Release: JanuStatement From: "I feel strongly that the Canadian strategy which prioritized a single shot into as many people as possible has saved an inordinate number of lives," Kelvin said in an email to CBC News. Prof. Alyson Kelvin, a virologist at Dalhousie University and the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, agreed that the British study results support Canada's dose-spacing strategy. "In fact, we anticipated that the boost response would be improved by that extended interval." "We underscored that extending the interval between first and second doses would enable more people to benefit from the substantial protection offered by a single dose without negatively affecting the second dose boost response," Skowronski said. Danuta Skowronski of the BC Centre for Disease Control, whose research helped guide Canada's decision to extend the interval between COVID-19 vaccine shots, in an email to CBC News. "The findings are not a surprise," said Dr. 'Not a surprise,' Canadian vaccine expert saysĮxperts in Canada said the British findings show that a fundamental principle of how vaccines traditionally work appears to apply in mRNA vaccines like Pfizer-BioNTech. for delaying that second dose has really paid off," Gayatri Amirthalingam, consultant epidemiologist at Public Health England, told reporters. However, taken with data showing good protection against hospitalization and death from just one shot of Pfizer vaccine, Public Health England said the study was further supportive evidence in favour of the delayed-dose approach. The authors warned against drawing conclusions on how protected individuals were based on which dosing schedule they received. The study, which has not yet been peer-reviewed, looked at 175 people aged between 80 and 99, and found that extending the second dose interval to 12 weeks increased the peak antibody response 3.5-fold compared to those who had it at three weeks.
For example, if you adjust your aperture dial three clicks darker, compensate by moving your shutter speed dial three clicks brighter. Your ISO is already at 100, so it usually will make more sense to adjust your shutter speed (in this case increasing it to 1/100sec).Ī shortcut is simply to count how many clicks you move. To compensate for the added brightness, you’ll need to stop down in either shutter speed or ISO. You then decide you want to isolate your subject from the background more, so you open your aperture to f/5.6 – a full stop. Let’s say you’re taking a photo that’s properly exposed at 1/50sec, f/8, ISO 100. Halving or doubling ISO numbers will also halve or double the image exposure. Remember, when we talk about stops in relation to exposure, we’re either doubling the amount of light that comes in or halving it.ĭecreasing your shutter speed from 1/100sec to 1/50sec will double the amount of light coming in. They can see in real-time the effects that changing their aperture diameter makes and adjust the other exposure settings simply by looking at the screen. Tip: Mirrorless camera users have an added bonus when they shoot in manual mode. If you change a setting by a full stop one direction, you can always compensate by changing another setting on the exposure triangle a full stop in the opposite direction (or both of the other settings by a half stop each). Once you memorize the sequence of full-stop f-stops, it’ll become super easy to adjust the other settings on the exposure triangle any time you change your aperture. A smaller bottom number of the f ratio signifies a larger aperture. Tip: Remember, the bigger the bottom number, the narrower the aperture. If we were only limited to f-stops that were full stops, the scale would look like this:į/1, f/1.4, f/2, f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8, f/11, f/16, f/22, f/32Īs it is, we have many more options, most lenses have an aperture range that lets you adjust the aperture size one-third stop at a time, hence all the in-between options. (Remember, a smaller f-number means a larger aperture!) Going from f/5.6 to f/8 is one full stop down. Unlike stops of exposure, they don’t simply double or halve, but instead, depend on the f ratio.įor example, going from f/2.8 to f/2 is one stop up. What’s confusing is that this kind of stop is different from the stop in “f-stop.” F-stops only refer to the size of the aperture. Moving down a stop is halving the light that enters your camera. Moving up a stop means that you’re doubling the amount of light entering your camera. Remember how light and photography go hand in hand? Well, a stop is how photographers talk about measuring light. The first step in learning how to read f-stops is understanding what a stop of exposure is. Lenses made for digital cameras will usually have f-stops in increments of thirds. This lens only has full stops available for adjusting the f-stop. f/16 or f/22), the greater your depth of field and the greater amount of your image will be in focus. The more open your aperture opening (like f/1.4 or f/2), the shallower your depth of field the more closed (i.e. Depth of field is the amount of your photo that appears sharp from front to back.Ī very shallow depth of field blurs everything but the point you focus on.Ī deep depth of field will keep most of the scene relatively sharp.Īs you can see from the f stop infographic above, depth of field and aperture diameter are intimately connected. Next to the f-numbers is an arrow referring to the depth of field. The wider the aperture – the opening in the lens – the smaller the f-number.įor example, in the chart above f/1.4 is quite wide open (a ‘wide’ aperture), while f/16 is little more than a pinhole ( a ‘narrow’ or ‘small’ aperture). Aperture Value Chart showing regular F-Stop range (Click to enlarge and download)į-stops (also referred to as f-numbers) refer to how open or closed the opening in your lens is. Regarding Agile Maneuvers, I think it should be rated even lower than red if possible. Lunge is definitely good, but spending an entire second feat for a little bit of extra AC while using it is not worthwhile in my opinion. Lunge is green, but goes to blue with Monkey Lunge? Even if Monkey Lunge did anything at all (RAW it does nothing), that's spending a feat for a +2 to AC while using another feat, on a feat starved class. I think Atheist Inspiration is overrated, but if you hold it in such esteem it's pretty weird that you'd rate DD so low. Got to the feat section, here's some thoughtsĭivine Defiance is red while Atheist Inspiration is blue? They do the exact same thing except DD has no action cost and is +2 instead an average +3.5. This plot is very carefully supported by a very finely crafted world, in particular a whole virtual internet has been included to give us background information and a greater scope for the world. You play through an early tutorial that gives you the basics as Kazuki, testing out a new model Wanzer before being asked to deliver it to the Japanese Defence Force base where they witness an explosion where a new weapon is tested and things quickly escalate from there as the JDF and DHZ scenarios divide to show different sides of the conflict. You are put into the shoes of ‘Wanzer’ pilot Kazuki and his friend/annoyance Ryogo (based on how you choose to interact with him early on). Events you hear about in passin in one could be your focal mission in another play through, whilst some characters become allies or enemies. This decision spins the tale down two wildly different and complimentary timelines and adds a great amount of replay-ability. The clever part of Front Mission 3 is that early in the game you’re asked to make what appears to be an innocent choice between relaxing with a work colleague or visiting your step-sister. Military themes and pushing pieces that add to the thrill of battle and yet make you worried about the outcome deliver exactly what the game needs to sound great. Musically the game has a serious and dark tone that is just a shade above being dour. I’d say that the sound design eclipses anything seen in the Final Fantasy series, although by modern standards some of it seems to have a tinny quality when played through high quality speakers. Sound is also of a very high quality, with mechs stomping across the field with weight and every punch of rocket launch accompanied by a feeling of weight. 2D illustrations have a more adult-manga hybrid with western illustration that helps sell the seriousness of the drama later in the game.īlocky 3D bypassed with some excellent Mech designs. That Mechs can be customized on all levels including colour, weapons and armor and that this is visually shown in the field is a masterstroke and a rare event for the time. The fully 3D sequences are supplemented wisely by 2D illustrations for speakers and backgrounds for story sequences, allowing for more complicated scenes to remain visually appealing. Giant robots are all sharp angles and work well, though Human characters are just passable. Games from this period look a little rough by today’s standard and some don’t hold up at all, but the nature of a Mech-based combat game allows for Square of the time to play to the strengths of the medium. Graphically the Playstation was still undergoing that formative period where blocky 3D polygons were replacing 2D artwork and sprites. The game has a solid sci-fi setting, deep tactical system and customization that would make Final Fantasy Tactics blush. Slipped in there between titles such as Final Fantasy VII and VIII, accompanied by Legend of Mana and Chrono Cross, it holds its own among such fine company and even manages to do a few things none of these others can. It’s the kind of hard that saw a generation of players throwing controllers into walls and screaming aloud in rage to God above and cursing Squaresoft, but at the same time it’s one of the most rewarding games of the original Playstation generation.įront Mission 3 comes from that golden period where SquareEnix (then Squaresoft) were releasing hit after hit for Sony’s then-new Playstation console. When you hear people say ‘games aren’t as hard as they used to be’ they’re probably referring to Front Mission 3. The Canadian manufacturer unveiled the successor Challenger 350 at the EBACE convention in 2013 and certified the upgraded model in June 2014.īombardier has delivered 455 Challenger 300s and 376 Challenger 350s overall, with 81% of the later variant domiciled in North America, according to the Aviation Week Network Fleet Discovery database. The twinjet entered service in January 2004 and was produced through 2014. At this point, it’s almost completely across the board in terms of demand outpacing supply.”īombardier received type certification from Transport Canada for the clean-sheet-design Challenger 300 in May 2003. But now that they’ve come back, you’re seeing supply down 40-60% and sales in the last six months eclipsing the total number of aircraft on the market currently. “The most surprising thing was just how slow those markets were during the pandemic. “Some of your aircraft makes and models just stand out as fantastic all-around in value and performance and size, and those have been absolutely cleaned out in terms of supply-your Challenger 300s, your CJ3s, your G550s,” said Hasty. Jared Hasty, director of sales and key accounts with OGARAJETS, and other broker-dealers who spoke during a BCA webinar May 12, echoed Comstock’s observations of a tight pre-owned market across multiple business jet categories. Due to the dearth of aircraft currently for sale on the open market, we have been undertaking many aircraft acquisition projects for buyers, often sourcing ‘off-market’ aircraft via our industry counterparts-banks, manufactures, etc.” It’s typically something unforeseen and so there’s no predicting what could derail what is currently a super-heated market. “In fact, in 2007, when inventory levels last reached the levels they are today, within two years pre-owned choices had nearly doubled. “My experience tells me this always changes,” adds Comstock. But this is the first time in my career that I am more anxious about not having enough sellers,” he says. “As a broker, I have at times over the last 20 years since Jeteffect was formed, been concerned in down markets that there weren’t going to be enough buyers to sustain our business model. Worldwide inventory of all pre-owned jets for sale stood at a 14-year low, Comstock says. Travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic challenged all potential buyers from seeing these and other jets. When he spoke with BCA, Comstock knew of three pre-owned Challenger 350s for sale-one each in Asia, Turkey and Pakistan-but none based in the U.S. hit the nail on the head from performance to the flat floor to the cabin.” The Challenger 350 “owns that segment,” with more than 800 jets delivered, when including the predecessor Challenger 300, says Bryan Comstock, founding partner and West Coast managing director with aircraft dealer Jeteffect. There were only two or three Bombardier Challenger 350s available for sale on the pre-owned market this spring, attesting to the tightness of the market and the attraction of the super-midsize 350. Your experience with Octodad will depend on a variety of factors. The good news is that if you missed some trophies during your playthrough you can use the free play option to go back to specific stages and unlock them. The trophies in Octodad range from getting an item at the grocery store before someone else to doing things that are a bit more crazy such as getting sucked into the riding mower. It will tell you how long you took to beat each level in case you want to go for a better time as well as how many available ties you have found. Free play will allow you re-play any segment you have already passed. This is probably the best way to experience Octodad if you have friends to play the game with. The madness that ensues from having everyone control a different limb is great and resulted in a bunch of laughs and good times from everyone involved. Local co-op works with two to four players with each person controlling one set of limbs. In addition to the single player campaign, there is also a co-op setting as well as free play. Once such puzzle consists of trying to get some frozen pizza in the grocery store but the freezer has frozen all of the doors shut, except for one of them on the opposite end of where you need to be. If not it is going to take you a little longer to figure out how to solve the puzzles that are presented to you. If you are able to grasp the controls quickly you can pretty much fly through this game. There are a few different environments in the game that range from your house, your yard, a grocery store and more I won’t spoil. So not only do you have to worry about this chef trying to ruin your life but you also need to perform the functions of every other normal dad such as taking care of your kids, tending to the yard, doing grocery shopping and more. Along your journey you keep running in to this sushi chef that knows your secret and is trying to expose you to the world. Throughout the game your wife begins to suspect something is wrong and keeps questioning you about strange occurrences she has noticed. You also have two human children with a young son and a young daughter. You are an octopus and somehow married a human female without her knowing that you are an octopus. I say that in a positive way as some of the situations you are put in can be pretty funny. The story for Octodad is fairly light and pretty ridiculous. Of course it helps that Octodad is only a couple of hours long. I question whether gamers will hang around long enough to really understand how to control Octodad and navigate the various environments. That said though the moments I was able to successfully complete an objective was a great one. Due to the control scheme there were many moments of frustration as Octodad wouldn’t do what I wanted at all times. When you first play Octodad the controls appear to be broken, or at the very least, really obtuse. I initially struggled with how to review this game for those reasons. Octodad: Dadliest Catch has to be the most unique game I have played to date on PS4 and that is both good and bad. |
